Welcome to the plant images album page, the entry point to the
Plants Photographs. Clicking on this hyperlink will open the
images album. At present there are over 4000 images available as both thumbnails (200 x 150 pixels), for previewing, and as 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 pixel images for viewing in detail. The original images from which these were derived are much higher resolution, most being taken using a Nikon Coolpix 995 or 8800 camera at up to 3264 x 2448 resolution. Please see the

The over-riding issue has been the design of a system which is suitable for handling and displaying very large numbers of files without the need for the generation of huge numbers of unique web pages, each with their own hard-coded hyperlinks. It is also vital that it is easy to regularly update the site with additional images.
With the increasing size of the image collection, the aspWebAlbum script used until January 2006 was becoming increasing unstable. The gallery generation software was changed at that time to JAlbum, a Java-based program which is available for download free of charge from
http://jalbum.net. The program can be used with a variety of skins, the album used here employs the "Edgewood" skin, a customized "Chameleon" skin. |
